Description
The Arch was built in the 1850s and originally served as part of a larger iron fence securing the campus. It is considered to be the gateway between the University of Georgia and the city of Athens. The Arch's three pillars stand for Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation which is the state motto of Georgia.
